Stormwater Management Action Plan (SMAP)

Mount Vernon, along with over 80 other communities in Washington, is putting together a Stormwater Management Action Plan (or SMAP) as required by the State of Washington. The goal of the SMAP is to strengthen current City efforts to protect our surface water quality and preserve the beneficial uses we enjoy from those waters.

To meet SMAP requirements the city will prioritize and select individual waterbodies and their watershed (the area of land that drains to this water body) to focus efforts in that area, including potential actions to reduce polluted stormwater runoff.
