Responsibilities Of The Civil Division

The Civil Division of the City of Mount Vernon City Attorney’s Office provides legal advice and support to the city council, mayor, all city boards and commissions, department directors, and staff. The city attorney also represents the city in litigation.

Risk Management

The risk management function entails analyzing the City’s liabilities via incidents and claims for damages. Staff works with insurance companies or individuals to recoup the amount of losses incurred by the City for damaged property.

Concerning any legal matter involving the city, contact the City Attorney’s Office and you will be directed to the appropriate party. This includes claims for damages against the city, nuisance complaints, information about city ordinances, or any other civil matter.
