Feburary 2026
When my youngest son learned to walk, the process was long. He really ended up walking about a year later than his older brother. When my older son transitioned from pulling up on furniture to taking unsupported steps, the process was about a week. A blink and you'll miss it moment in his development. Both children followed the same wonderful pathway to walking, just at radically different speeds.
I have been thinking a lot about different speeds of development this past week, as we finally got permission to use our commercial kitchen and, in doing so, completed construction of the Mount Vernon Library Commons! This was a goal I set for my New Year's resolutions in 2024, 2025, and 2026. I'm excited to have passed this hurdle so we can move to the next stage of development for the commons. Some parts are already off and running, though. For instance, the library saw more than 1,900 new households become users last year!
Whatever the speed, I am grateful for the opportunity to support Mount Vernon and look forward to the year of new beginnings ahead!
