Library Giving Day

Tomorrow, April 1st, is Library Giving Day! A chance for you to support The Mount Vernon Library Commons, a place that offers free access to knowledge and learning for everyone.

This year we are asking supporters to make a gift in honor of sustainable library funding and support for children in our community. All donations will go to the Foundation’s annual fund, which supports children’s services, programming, staff education and more! Thank you for your support on April 1st and throughout the year.

Literacy

Now is a critical time to support our library as young learners struggle with literacy.

Youth reading scores are 7% below pre-pandemic levels. The Nation’s Report Card shows that 40% of fourth graders are not meeting basic reading comprehension skills.

The library is a key resource in helping educate our children.

Cut in Funding

The IMLS is responsible for distributing federal funding to libraries.

Today, government officials met with the IMLS and placed all the staff on administrative leave.

While on leave, the staff are prohibited from continuing their duties. All employees were required to turn in government phones and other property before leaving the building, and their email accounts are now disabled. This change means our library will no longer be able to get the funding they were awarded last week.

That is why your gifts are more important than ever.
