The Next Chapter!
I am 41 years old—young in comparison to our 106 year old library. But, old in comparison to my children (as they like to remind me). I have been thinking a lot about that number lately in part because 41 years ago was the last time the city invested in expanding its library. Well, until last night!
Last night by a unanimous vote, the City Council moved forward on building the best darn library Skagit Valley has ever seen (my words, not their's) So, I am delighted to announce the Mount Vernon Library Commons is a go! This facility will create jobs, grow downtown development, make our county more resilient, have a great community center, open new safe spaces for kids and teens, and invite people to our wonderful city. Plus 900 other reasons I am very proud to be associated with this project.
On September 17th at 10:00 am at the site of the new library, 208 Kincaid Street. You all are invited to join us for a groundbreaking! (Full Program shortly)
It will be a moment to celebrate this next chapter!
Then, of course, we will be back to grind, bringing in every last dollar we can to make this facility as wonderful as possible (the foundation will likely ask you for support. So we can get little things like shelving).
Thank you all. Your community support has meant the world to us!
Thank You! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Isaac Huffman
Library Director
(and Mayor and the Library staff and so so many more)
