Emergencies can happen at any time, often without warning. Prepare a few simple items that can help you out in a pinch. Pick up each take home craft at the youth services desk. While supplies last.

Firefighter Storytime

Celebrate Fire Prevention Week with Firefighter Storytime! Local firefighters will read stories, do a uniform demonstration, talk about fire safety, and give a tour of a fire truck. 


STEAM Lab: Grossology
Tuesday, October 16
4-5 p.m.
Ages 6-8

What’s gross, slimy, and sometimes smelly? Science! Drop in for a truly revolting STEAM Lab.



Storybook Pumpkin Patch
Monday, October 22 - Wednesday, October 31
All Ages

Decorate a pumpkin (no bigger than a basketball) at home to look like one of your favorite book characters and bring it to the library to be displayed in our storybook pumpkin patch. Pumpkins will be displayed October 22-October 31. No carved or cut pumpkins, please. Pumpkins need to be picked up November 1 or 2. Pumpkins not picked up will be put in our yard waste bin on November 3.


Costume Party Storytime

It’s Halloween, so come in costume to Preschool Storytime! There will be Halloween stories, songs, rhymes and movement activities. Siblings welcome.

Storytime 

Storytime is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. See a list of our storytimes here. 



Tales for Tails 
First Saturday of the Month 
1-2 p.m.

Dogs on Call, an all-volunteer organization of certified therapy dogs, presents this reading program for reluctant readers (and readers who just love dogs). Reading to dogs helps put kids at ease and makes reading more enjoyable. Recommended for ages 6-12.



LEGO Building 
Wednesdays from 3-7:30 p.m.
Saturdays from 2-4:30 p.m.

We supply the LEGOs, you bring your imagination.  All ages welcome. 




K’NEX Building
Thursdays from 3 - 7:30 p.m.
Ages 3+

Kids ages 3 and up can put their building creativity to work on our new budding builder and model building K’NEX sets.



Play and Learn
Fridays and Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m.

Drop-in for self-guided kindergarten readiness activities for caregivers and children to explore together.

Do you have a collection you would like to display at the library in one of our two display cases? Sign-up!




Birthday Club 


Get a birthday present from the Library! Visit the birthday bulletin board next time you come to the Library. Children ages 1 to 14 years may join the Birthday Club by filling out a form with their name, age, birthday and favorite book. During your birthday month, we will display your form on our bulletin board. You may pick up a birthday present from the Youth Services desk any time during that month. The Birthday Club is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Red Apple Market, and the Mount Vernon City Library.
