 MAYOR'S WINTER WELLNESS WEEK

JANUARY 22-28, 2017

Get your year off to a fun and healthy start by joining us for these FREE daily activities during the annual Mayor's Winter Wellness Week!

Sunday, January 22, 4-5pm
Restorative Yoga w/Instructor Shelley Dorland

Restorative Yoga is a slow, quiet practice that nurtures deep relaxation and release. Typically the poses are held for 5-10 minutes while the practitioner is fully supported with props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks and straps. Hands on adjustments are made to ensure a comfortable experience. Participants say they leave feeling relaxed and revived.

For ages 12 and older. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one available and wear comfortable clothing easy to stretch in.

Come see the winter skies of Mount Vernon from the comfort of the High School Planetarium. Would you like to learn how to locate some of our winter constellations, stars, and deep sky objects? How far away are these things, and what are they exactly? MVHS Science teacher and Planetarium Director John Sullivan will be using the 30-foot domed planetarium to answer these questions and more.

second event at 7:30pm**

Puirt na Gael Celtic Instrumental Quartet
Littlefield Celtic Center, 1124 Cleveland Avenue

Puirt na Gael is a Celtic Instrumental Quartet featuring Scottish Reelpipes, fiddle, whistles and bouzouki. Their repertoire features mostly Scottish and Cape Breton, Novia Scotia tunes, with a few Irish tunes as well.

Whether fast-paced jigs and reels, or haunting slow airs, these musicians have years of playing experience at a very high level, and love performing and sharing their passion for Celtic music. The group has appeared at the Northwest Folklife Festival and at other venues around the Puget Sound area.
Stop in and enjoy the music anytime between 6-7:30pm!

Illuminight Winter Walk

The Mount Vernon Downtown Association, the City of Mount Vernon, Illuminated Wildlife and Tri-Dee Arts are pleased to present the 3rd Illuminight Winter Walk at 5:30pm. Come to Tri-Dee Arts, 215 S 1st Street, between 4-5pm and learn how to make a paper lantern luminary. Then, take a 15-20 minute wellness walk from Tri-Dee Arts along the Skagit Riverwalk. The Illuminight Winter Walk is a fun, free family event for all ages.

Five Wishes Workshop: Writing Your Living Will

During this interactive workshop led by Hospice of the Northwest and using the Five Wishes living will booklet, participants will explore ways to direct their own treatment should they become too ill to speak for themselves. Five Wishes meets the legal requirements for an advance directive in Washington State. Each participant will receive a Five Wishes booklet provided by Hospice of the Northwest.
