Completion Celebration - Downtown Waterfront Flood Protection Project

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Mayor Jill Boudreau and the Mount Vernon City Council invite the community to celebrate the culmination of over 15 years of focused collaboration, planning and hard work. On September 28, community leaders and residents will gather to celebrate the completion of the $31 million flood protection and waterfront revitalization project, a key component of the City’s comprehensive Downtown Redevelopment Plan designed to protect vital downtown property, commerce and infrastructure from small and large flood events. By offering current and future business investors flood protection in the historic downtown core, city officials say they expect to realize riverfront development that has been a part of the city’s comprehensive plan for some time. Representatives from FEMA will be present at the celebration. FEMA hails the Project as a national model for community leadership, collaboration and perseverance. The project is the subject of FEMA Region X’s latest video spotlight (link below)
