City Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR)

Another milestone was reached today in the City of Mount Vernon’s continued efforts toward ensuring transparency in local government. 

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) has been awarded to the City by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. 

“The CAFR is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” GFOA Director Michele Mark Levine stated. 

This CAFR Award marks the City of Mount Vernon’s 19th time to be recognized by the GFOA; and it is an honor that Mayor Boudreau and Finance Director Doug Volesky both said they are proud to see continue. 

“This award represents the City’s success in a crucial area—our finances,” Mayor Boudreau said. 

“Meeting the high standards of this program demonstrates our Finance Department’s commitment to clearly communicate and disclose our financial story. And for that we are quite proud.” 

The Mayor is set to officially present the CAFR Award to Volesky and staff members at the City’s January 3rd Study Session.
