Winter Reading Challenge
January 1 - 31
Kids & Adults of All Ages

From January 1st to January 31st, Mount Vernon City Library will participate in the inaugural Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge. We challenge each of our patrons to read at least 500 minutes during the month of January. Keep track of your reading at mountvernonwa.beanstack.org or pick up a paper reading log at the library.

Saturday, January 6 - All About Shapes
Saturday, January 20 - Letters of the Alphabet
10-11:30 a.m.

Families, friends, and neighbors play an important role in a child's development. At Kaleidoscope Play & Learn©, children and their caregivers participate together in hands-on activities that support early learning, join in on an interactive storytime, and build supportive relationships. Targeted to children ages 2-6.




STEAM Lab: Slime
Tuesday, January 16
4-5 p.m.

Get ready for an ooey, gooey, slippery, slimey time at this month's STEAM Lab. For kids ages 6-8.






Police Officer Storytime
Tuesday, January 23
10:30 a.m.

Come to a special storytime with a police officer from the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Storytime is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. See a list of our storytimes here.



Tales for Tails
First Saturday of the Month
1-2 p.m.

Dogs on Call, an all-volunteer organization of certified therapy dogs, presents this reading program for reluctant readers (and readers who just love dogs). Reading to dogs helps put kids at ease and makes reading more enjoyable. Recommended for ages 6-12.



LEGO Building
Wednesdays from 3-7:30 p.m.
Saturdays from 2-4:30 p.m.

We supply the LEGOs, you bring your imagination.  All ages welcome. 



Play & Learn
Fridays and Saturdays
10-11:30 a.m.

Fun math, science and literacy activity stations for young children ages 2-6 and their caregiver.

Do you have a collection you would like to display at the library in one of our two display cases? Sign-up!




Birthday Club


Get a birthday present from the Library! Visit the birthday bulletin board next time you come to the Library. Children ages 1 to 14 years may join the Birthday Club by filling out a form with their name, age, birthday and favorite book. During your birthday month, we will display your form on our bulletin board. You may pick up a birthday present from the Youth Services desk any time during that month. The Birthday Club is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Red Apple Market, and the Mount Vernon City Library.
