Mark your calendars for the Children's Music Series Picnic Party at Skagit Riverwalk Plaza this August. Bring your picnic lunch and a blanket or chairs and enjoy live children's music & family fun - FREE! Presented in conjunction with Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation.

Summer Explorers
Tuesdays in August
10:30 a.m.
Ages 3-6 with caregiver

Summer is a great time for exploring! Fun, hands-on activities will alternate each week between indoor/outdoor gardening and messy science. 




Sensory Play

Drop in for some hands-on fun with playdough, slime, and more.



K’NEX Building
Thursdays in September
Drop-in between 3 - 7:30 p.m.

Kids ages 3 and up can put their building creativity to work on our new budding builder and model building K’NEX sets.


Teen Take Home Crafts - National Preparedness Month

Emergencies can happen at any time, often without warning. Prepare a few simple items that can help you out in a pinch. Pick up each take home craft at the youth services desk. While supplies last.

Join us after-hours for a night of cars, fun, and games! Activities will include Hot Wheels time trials, an RC car obstacle course, model car building/decorating, carnival games, and a special appearance of Frankie the Fire Engine.

Storytime - Resumes Tuesday, September 11!

Storytime is an opportunity for parents to introduce their children to reading and language in a fun way. At Storytime, children have an opportunity to do activities that promote development and learning. See a list of our storytimes here. 



Tales for Tails 
First Saturday of the Month 
(No Tales for Tails July-September)
1-2 p.m.

Dogs on Call, an all-volunteer organization of certified therapy dogs, presents this reading program for reluctant readers (and readers who just love dogs). Reading to dogs helps put kids at ease and makes reading more enjoyable. Recommended for ages 6-12.



LEGO Building 
Wednesdays from 3-7:30 p.m.
Saturdays from 2-4:30 p.m.

We supply the LEGOs, you bring your imagination.  All ages welcome. 



Play and Learn
Fridays and Saturdays from 10-11:30 a.m.

Drop-in for self-guided kindergarten readiness activities for caregivers and children to explore together.

Do you have a collection you would like to display at the library in one of our two display cases? Sign-up!




Birthday Club 


Get a birthday present from the Library! Visit the birthday bulletin board next time you come to the Library. Children ages 1 to 14 years may join the Birthday Club by filling out a form with their name, age, birthday and favorite book. During your birthday month, we will display your form on our bulletin board. You may pick up a birthday present from the Youth Services desk any time during that month. The Birthday Club is sponsored by the Mount Vernon Red Apple Market, and the Mount Vernon City Library.
